Imaging cellular dynamics across scales

Life is inherently dynamic, yet most of what we know about it comes from static pictures. Understanding how living matter functions requires knowledge across multiple scales: From molecules to organelles to cells to organs and organisms. Novel technological developments in microscopy now enable scientists to image the dynamics of living systems at these different scales and provide crucial new insights into biological processes. These microscopy approaches are further empowered by additional technologies such as automated image analysis, fluorescent probes that report on the dynamics of molecular processes, and optogenetic tools to manipulate biological processes in time and space. This MIC symposium will provide examples of how this new multiscale technological toolkit can redefine how we think about biological processes.
