Microscopy Imaging Center

About us

In the Microscopy Imaging Center (MIC), experts in microscopy from the Medical, Science and Vetsuisse Faculties of the University of Bern and from the University of Fribourg have joined forces to support microscopy and image analysis. Actually the MIC Committee, which is the directive panel, involves 36 representatives. The MIC committee convenes quarterly.

Members of the MIC committee represent the MIC at the Swiss Society for Optics and Microscopy (SSOM) and at the Intersection Microscopy of Life Sciences Switzerland (LS2). Close collaboration is maintained with the Data Science Lab of the University of Bern.

The MIC coordinator is the head of the MIC office and coordinates the events, the teaching and the services of the MIC. Currently, more than 80 instruments are registered at the MIC. This number includes light microscopes, electron microscopes, atomic force microscopy systems and three micro computed tomography (micro-CT) instruments. In 2022, this equipment was used by 508 researchers.
